Oops, I Prompted It Again is a public event on generative AI that brings together two complementary perspectives on one of today’s most influential technologies. Aki Härmä will unpack how artificial intelligence and large language models work, clarify key concepts, and reflect on current developments in the field. Emir Efendić will explore how these systems are beginning to shape the way we think, communicate, and relate to others. Together, the talks offer both a technical and a human perspective on the growing role of AI in society.

What’s the mind in your genAI and where it comes from?

Aki Härmä (Assistant professor in Language Technology at the Department of Advanced Computing Sciences, Maastricht University. )
Aki Härmä is an assistant professor at DACS and specialized in language technology, including the application of machine learning on written and spoken language data. He has about 140 publications and numerous patents in this broad topic area. His current research interests are the application of language technology in education and environmental monitoring. In the talk, he gives an overview of the field and technology of artificial intelligence, generative computational models, and some of the details about Large Language Models and how they work. He will also discuss and clarify some of the terminology and common misconceptions, and give some thoughts about the current trends in the field.

AI on your mind: or how we delved deeper into —em dashes

Efendic Emir (Assistant Professor in Marketing & Supply Chain Management at the School of Business and Economics, Maastricht University)
Emir Efendić is an assistant professor at Maastricht University’s School of Business and Economics. He is a psychologist studying how people make judgments and decisions, with a focus on why they sometimes go wrong and how accuracy can be improved. My work combines psychology, behavioral economics, and management science to examine how individuals reason, choose, estimate, and forecast. In this talk, he will cover how current large language models affect our psychology. From their effect on our communication, our reasoning, to the social consequences their usage signals to others. We aren't just using these models; we are being shaped by them in ways we are only beginning to document. This talk examines the invisible loop between human and algorithm, and what it means for the future of social connection.
